Good glucose control starts with meal planning and healthy eating.

Know how to count carbohydrates-use the Nutrition Facts label on food as a quick reference to how many grams of carbs are in that particular food

Choose foods from all six food groups to provide adequate nutrition: grains, vegetables, fruits, proteins, dairy and oils.

Look for bright colored fruits and vegetables and lean cuts of meats like chicken, turkey and fish.

Avoid high fat and sugary snacks

Use olive or canola oil instead of butter or lard to cook

Avoid cream based sauces

Bake, steam, broil or grill meats and vegetables instead of frying
